Historic Columbia River Highway, Oregon

die Beschränkung auf 35 Fuß gilt übrigens nur für den westlichen Teil des Highways. Auf dem ruhigeren östlichen Teil gibt es eine solche Längenbeschränkung nicht.

Hier der Wortlaut aus dem entsprechenden Informationsschreiben des Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) vom Oktober 2019:

Vehicle length restrictions on the Historic Highway

Increased safety with length restrictions

ODOT plans to restrict the Waterfall Zone of the Historic Highway to vehicles under 35 feet in length beginning spring 2020 to reduce vehicle conflicts and increase safety. This length restriction applies to all vehicles traveling between Vista House and Ainsworth State Park, including motorhomes and vehicles towing other vehicles.

Vehicles over 35 feet can continue east to Portland Women’s Forum, but cannot access Vista House.

Vehicles with a total length over 35 feet must use Interstate 84 once the restrictions are in place beginning spring 2020. Access to Multnomah Falls will be through I-84 Exit 31 for all vehicles over 35 feet.

Residents and business within the restriction area should contact ODOT for more information.

Why

This restriction will increase safety by reducing the amount of vehicles crossing into oncoming traffic lanes around tight curves and narrow pinch points on the highway.

Restricting length on the Historic Highway was a project identified as a key near-term recommendation in the multi-agency Historic Columbia River Highway Congestion and Transportation Safety Improvement Plan.

Die Entscheidung von ODOT hängt meines Erachtens vor allem mit der tatsächlichen Verkehrsbelastung auf dem westlichen Teil des Highways zusammen, wo es um ein Vielfaches trubeliger zugeht als auf dem östlichen.
